Seoul Marathon - Run or Not

Registration process

It is very, very difficult for foreigners to register!!! Unless you can read Korean, have Korean address, phone number and bank account.
Information in English on www.seoul-marathon.com is very limited and all pop-up windows are in Korean... and they will pop all the time!
If you live in the USA, you can somehow link your bank account with theirs. If you're somewhere else, like me in Australia, better find yourself some Korean friends to help you out.
Oh! and don't use MacOS as I was informed Hmm... It seem to problem by Max OS...
Even when you somehow succeed, you won't get any confirmation... and better check their website a couple of times (and email) whether you're actually registered.

Price

Very affordable - $50.

Communication

It is better not to have any questions. I takes the organisers ages to reply in Google-translate English. Oh, and even if they will eventually write something to you, do not reply! Emails will bounce back. You need to find a different email address on their website... and reply there.

Expo

Yes, there was Expo this year! Hurray! and it was easy to access, and easy to pick up the package.
Again, if you don't live in Korea, most Expo is just useless to you. Overwhelmingly dominated by one sponsor - Adidas (selling surprising nice and affordable merchandise). Not much more.

Goodie bag and giveaways

There is no goodie bag and no samples, but you're getting a running vest that is quite nice, and a very nice medal.
I'm still dreaming about getting my promised finisher's t-shirt, but it's probably not going to happen since I'm back in Australia and my Korean friend had to use her brother's office address for registration (the system didn't accept Australian addresses).

Weather conditions

Perfect weather to run a marathon. Yes, you will get a bit cold before the gun but as soon as you start moving... just perfect. In 2017 there was no rain, no wind and temperatures between 5 and 15C. Sunny.

Course

I loved the course. You know how most organisers are giving you just a glimpse of the city and then… off on a highway or some faraway park leading to an airport (I’m talking to you Singapore) so they don’t have to block to much of the city… In Seoul you are getiing all the best and most interesting places. No skimping on sightseeing. The course is is also flat and wide, so get ready for your next PR!!!

Amenities on the course

In the end I think there were enough water stations (even if every 5km), fuel and energy drinks, cookies and bananas, and wet sponges(?!).
Couldn't find any toilets. Where were the toilets???

Post race village and facilities

Water, energy drinks, bananas, buns, cookies for free when you finish. Then there are many tents with different foods you can buy, just after you pass baggage pick up.
And then there is the Expo again, with long queues and not really for foreign runners.

Verdict

Register if you like a challenge and I don't only mean running. The challenge is just to get to the start line.
However, if you're persistent enough, you get to really see the beauty of Seoul, and maybe even achieve a new PR!
